Guerrero's duo goals lead américa to victory over querétaro

Spanish forward Irene Guerrero scored twice to power América to a 4-1 triumph over Querétaro in the Mexican Women's Football League's Clausura 2026 tournament.

América's 16th round win moves them up to second place

In the 16th round match, Guerrero's two goals, along with strikes from Alexa Soto and Brazilian midfielder Isa Haas, propelled the blue-and-white clad América team coached by Spanish trainer Ángel Villacampa to victory. The match started with Querétaro taking the early lead thanks to an own goal by América's goalkeeper Itzel Velasco in the 40th minute.

However, América fought back, with Guerrero equalizing in the 45+2 minute with a left-footed shot. In the second half, Villacampa's team made tactical adjustments, pushing their lines forward, and soon regained the lead through Soto's deadly header in the 51st minute. Haas added another goal from the right in the 74th minute, before Guerrero sealed the win with a penalty kick in the 90+5th minute.

The win lifted América to second place in the standings with 39 points, tied with leaders Monterrey, who have a game in hand. In the other match of the day, Guatemalan forward Ana Lucía Martínez scored once and Nigerian forward Uchenna Kanu bagged a hat-trick as Cruz Azul thrashed Toluca 4-0 to climb to seventh place with 30 points, just two behind fifth-placed Toluca.
